Improved Educational Outcomes
Academic Performance: Studies indicate that students in alternative provisions often show improved academic performance compared to their previous experiences in mainstream schools. For example, a UK study revealed that around 60% of students in AP settings achieved better GCSE results than predicted based on their prior attainment.
Increased Engagement and Attendance
Reduced Exclusions: APs can lead to a decrease in school exclusions. According to a report by the Department for Education, alternative provision schools had a lower rate of permanent exclusions compared to mainstream schools, often by 20-30%
Higher Attendance Rates: Students in AP settings often have better attendance rates. A study found that attendance can improve by 15-20% when students are placed in an environment tailored to their needs.
Enhanced Social and Emotional Development
Social Skills Improvement: Alternative provisions often focus on social skills development. A survey indicated that 75% of parents reported improved social interactions in their children after attending AP.
Emotional Well-being: Research has shown that students with SEMH needs in alternative provisions experience a decrease in behavioral issues and an increase in emotional stability, with 68% of students reporting improved emotional well-being.
Individualised Support
Tailored Learning: AP settings typically offer smaller class sizes and more individualised attention. A report by Ofsted highlighted that over 80% of students in AP settings received personalised learning plans that better met their specific needs compared to mainstream schools.
Life Skills and Transition Support
Preparation for Post-School Life: Many alternative provisions place a strong emphasis on life skills. Programs focusing on vocational training have shown that 70% of students successfully transition to further education or employment after attending AP.
Parental Satisfaction
Positive Feedback: Research indicates that parental satisfaction rates are often higher for alternative provisions, with approximately 80% of parents feeling that their child’s needs were better met compared to mainstream schooling.
